Foss' two shipyards in the Pacific Northwest offer full service from naval architecture and marine engineering to vessel design, construction and repair. Foss Rainier Shipyard built the world’s first Hybrid Tug, which began performing ship assists in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in January 2009. Recognized by the industry as rigging experts, Foss also specializes in managing large projects and providing crane repair and maintenance.

Located in Seattle, Washington, and Rainier, Oregon, each shipyard features a team of highly skilled engineers. The Foss Seattle shipyard serves the Navy, Washington State Ferries, the petroleum and timber industries, fishing fleets, high-speed passenger vessels, and private yachts for dry-dock, maintenance and vessel repair.

Vessel Construction & Repair

Vessel construction at the Rainer, Oregon, shipyard combines state-of-the art technology with modern shipbuilding technologies and talent. The shipyard provides vessel construction and major conversions—including hybrid conversions. The hybrid technology used for the Hybrid Tug is flexible and compatible with most standard tug designs.

Mobile Response Unit for Emergency Repairs

Foss' ability to provide emergency repairs and preventative maintenance help customers avoid out-of-service time. We can dispatch a mobile response unit repair team from Seattle to anywhere in North America in 24 hours to do shipboard repairs at the dock or while underway. Foss’ highly respected team of naval architects, marine engineers and shipyard staff is also available for marine engineering support in emergency response situations.
